Part 73: Mission 40 - Bye-bye Jupiter - Part 2

A breather mission, this: just a bunch of Dotems and Metronomes along with Kuki’s Largo Dolem.
The mission will end when he reaches 40% HP, which is slightly over 31k, so you’ll need to pop a valored finished with a strong support attack.

Largo (Kuki Masayoshi)
Mech Features:
Kuki’s Voice Actor: Houchu Ohtsuka

Kuki can’t hold a candle to Mamoru, I’ll just say it right now; he’s got no skills whatsoever and relies solely on his Dolem to be a threat. That MAPW is a big one but it’s got no accuracy modifier, meaning it’s very unlikely to hit anyone with decent dodging capabilities. On that subject, he only has a single other attack which is merely range 1-4, meaning he’s VERY easy to snipe down.
The Harmonic Field’ll and that LL size give him some survivability but, beyond that, treat him as you would any ship midboss.

Brought in the Purus today to play catch up.

Not enough to oneshot these guys but they can help one another. Puru Two take sit.

Bright tore this Metronome apart, leaving it easy pickings.

Bam.

Guess I should keep the Three Angels up to speed to. Not Saburouta, though.

Without support from the better D1 models, Metronomes fall by the dozens.

The MU shouldn’t have skimped out on the armor.

While Masato claims a Dotem in the Purus’ group, Quattro does his thing and runs ahead. Best to let the enemies bash their heads against the Dijeh.

Go, Aqua.

Following this, Izumi and Ayato claim a couple of Dotems.

Enemy Phase!

Off goes Quattro, though half of Metronomes hang back.

Oh, you.

Gave back twice what we took.

I didn’t want Rom to hog all kills but the first Dotem dropped an item and the following four would’ve stolen it had they lived. So, he cuts them all down.

This one gets clever with Puru.

Better for us.

She learns Attune and Support Defense L2.

Player Phase!

Bright takes out that Metronome with an assist from Elvy.

Quattro and Rom lead the charge against whatever still has HP.

Shinji wraps this up.

Hikaru finishes what Quattro had started.

And this one’s for Masato.

Keep going.

Enemy Phase!

Hah.

Get outta here. Their friends don’t do any better when they go after Quattro or Ruri.

Player Phase!

Kills for both Purus, giving them various levels.

Go, Hikaru, go!

Aesty punch!

Here goes the last one.

Perfect.

Fast forward another turn and we’re good to engage Kuki.

He does try to do this first, though.

: EVA-01, kernel of the Human Instrumentality Project… I need but claim it and godhood might well be mine!
: Godhood…? What is that supposed to mean?!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suIXxrwffjQ

: EVA and Raideen… MU and RahXephon… And the fate of our world…!
: Indeed, destroying the barrier was akin to opening Pandora’s Box…

: What are you up to, trying to get the Star of La Mu?! Tell me!
: All you need to know is what I said before: give it to us or a great calamity will rain upon you!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcQE1LybCn4

: Wh-What is this presume I’m feeling…? Is it connected to the barrier’s disappearance…?!
: Oho… is this one of those “Newtypes” I heard so much about? Still, there is no future for your so-called new strain of humanity!

: This thing’s dangerous…! We have to take it down right now or something bad’s going to happen…!
: Seems you’ve something of a keen child. But no matter – your world will soon be sealed away!

: What are you after?! Why do you want the EVA and Raideen?!
: Ah, Masaki Kihara… What we’re after is what you attempted to do.
: !
: However, unlike you, we do not seek indiscriminate destruction!

: I’ve no desire to fight the Xephon… Embrace your fate and do what you were born to do. Such is Lady Maya’s wish.
: What I was born to do…?!

Kuki figures he’s done here after giving that ultimatum. He asks us to make us of what time we’ve left to decide to comply with their demands: surrender the EVA-01 and Star of La Mu… or else the world will share in Nirai-Kanai’s fate.

Today’s goodies were a Lamune and Minovsky Craft.

Atop the Hilanipla (floating city) by Tokyo, Mamoru sighs that Kuki’s getting too overeager out there. Why was that guy given command of that operation and not him? Maya says that is not Mamoru’s task: his is to be Ollin’s guardian and to confirm when he attains Yolteotl. Mamoru doesn’t seem happy with that.
Miwa’s starting to feel a bit uneasy with everything they’re doing. Are they really in the right? Will this really bring about the correct world? Maya tells her not to worry – their cause IS righteous.
Mamoru silently scoffs at her words, focused simply on the fact that he cannot bring himself to forgive Ollin for killing Hiroko. He’ll make him pay for it.

Back in Hoshimi, Otome’s a bit confused at the big stuff floating above – are those Gulfer? Midori doesn’t answer (though she probably remembers the MU from fifteen years ago) and Otome asks if they’ll be alright. Will Ginga and his friends keep them safe?
Absolutely, Midori says. They’ll be fine with him and his friends on the job, so she can relax. Inwardly, she tells Ginga, Hokuto and Orie that she has faith they’ll save their world.

in Ōiso City, Yukina (the schoolgirl) asks her mom, Minato, if dinner’s ready. It’s not, as she’s watching Hokuto’s dad on the TV: the government’s just declared a state of emergency and folks in the denoted regions are being advised to exercise extreme caution.
The MU’s floating cities have spread all over the world and Minato sees that the situation’s serious.

The Hundred Demons’, however, are quite pleased with how the whole thing’s thrown humanity in a state of chaos. This is the perfect opportunity for them to act, thinks Gura, and Brai’s inclined to agree.
They’ll now set their world domination plans into motion, beginning with taking full control of Japan. With that in mind, Hidler will lure and keep our people away from the Japanese islands while Gura and Brai attack the Saotome lab with the island fortress. Once they’ve claimed the Getter Ray Amplifier, they’ll make quick work of all opposition. Get to work, then.
HAIL BRAAAAAAAI!

Souichi tells Misato that Isshiki is being confined while people decide what his punishment will be. Someone from the Federation will arrive to assume custody soon and Misato sees they’re not pulling their punches with the guy. As for the floating cities, he tells Ruri that more are appearing by the minute and while they haven’t done anything yet, the populace is in panic.
The military is out in force to help maintain order, and state of emergency has been declared everywhere. Quattro sighs that while the MU aren’t attacking, the situation is progressively deteriorating and Amuro fears that other enemy groups are likely to try and capitalize on it.
Itsuki says our problems go beyond that, though, as Tokyo Jupiter’s barrier also kept our world and the MU’s from overlapping. With it gone, that’s exactly what is happening with the two. What’ll happen if the overlap concludes? Well, two objects can’t exist in the same space and time… so once the process is finished, both worlds will be annihilated.

That includes every single person within, of course, and Misato’s aghast. Itsuki wonders why: “Didn’t NERV anticipate this and plan a countermeasure? The Human Instrumentality Project, centered around the Evangelion Unit #01?”
Misato blusters at this and Vega asks what that project is. A way to prevent the world’s destruction? Itsuki would hardly define it as such but the fact remains that it certainly has aspects that run counter to the MU’s own plan.
And the Mulians know of its existence, which explains to Misato why they attacked Neo Tokyo 3 again and again.

Is there no other way to prevent the mutual destruction of both worlds? Itsuki says that it may be theoretically possible to recreate the barrier using the T-J Busters and put Tokyo back in the state it was, keeping the two worlds apart again. It’s not a good solution by any stretch of the word, thinks Itsuki, but it’s our only available option right now.
But there’s a problem, Souichi says: the T-J Buster aboard the vessel JBB-1 was damaged during the previous battle and even if all six were operational, there’s no telling if we can generate enough energy to trigger another “Jupiter” phenomenon.
Itsuki knows but thinks it might be possible if we unleash all the energy stored in the Neriya Shrine… or if we use the real Star of La Mu instead of the RMU System. This discussion will have to wait, however, as the alarm starts blaring right then: the D1, Largo, has been spotted around Yakushima and is headed straight for Nirai-Kanai.
